Where to stay when you arrive

Batumi's hotel stock clusters along the boulevard and in the old town. The area around Piazza Square and Chavchavadze Street puts you within walking distance of restaurants and the Alphabet Tower, while the newer towers north along Sherif Khimshiashvili Street offer sea views at higher rates. May, June and September are the sweet spots: warm water, fewer crowds and easier rooms than the August peak, when prices climb and the beach fills by mid-morning.

If you want quiet, look at Mtsvane Kontskhi (Green Cape) or the villages toward Kvariati, both a short drive from the centre. Booking a Batumi hotel for the first two nights and a guesthouse near Kvariati for the rest is a sensible split. Whichever you pick, confirm whether the room faces the sea or the courtyard; the difference in noise in high season is considerable, and the view is what you are paying for.

FAQ

Questions people ask before booking

The fastest daytime trains take about five hours. Overnight services run longer but save a hotel night. Book a few days ahead in summer, and check whether your departure ends at Batumi or at Ureki further north.

Marshrutkas from Didube are the cheapest option, with coaches and trains costing more but offering reserved seats and more space. For a direct trip with luggage, the train is the better value once comfort is counted.

May, June and September bring warm sea temperatures and manageable crowds. August is the busiest and most expensive month, while winter is quiet with many seafront places closed. Late spring and early autumn suit both sightseeing and swimming.
